The American Legion
national organization was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919
as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness.
With those same purposes
in mind, "The Garden Spot Post"; American Legion Post 56 located in Lititz,
Pennsylvania became the First Legion Post in Lancaster County as it was
organized in 1919 and then was chartered in 1920.
The American Legion is It
is the nationís largest wartime veterans service organization, committed
to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in those communities
supported by local Legion
posts, along with programs advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong
national security, and continued devotion to its fellow service members
The American Legion is a
nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with great political influence
perpetuated by its grass-roots involvement in the legislation process from
local districts to the various state capitols and to Congress. Legion
members share a sense of obligation to community, state and nation drives
an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington. The American Legion stands
behind the issues most important to the nation's veterans community, backed
by resolutions passed by volunteer leadership.
The success of the American
Legion depends entirely on active membership, participation
and volunteerism. The organization
belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives.
American Legion Post 56,
"The Garden Spot Post", in Lititz, Pennsylvania actively supports its community,
Lancaster County, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania the American Legion
national organization, and works diligently to live up to its motto,
"Proudly Supporting our
